Injured Nigerian-Born Winger Misses Liverpool's 7-0 Loss To Villarreal Premier League Intl Cup
Published: November 21, 2018An undisclosed injury kept Bobby Adekanye from playing for Liverpool in their shock 7-0 loss suffered at the hands of Villarreal in their Premier League International Cup opener on Wednesday evening.
Winger Samuel Chukwueze is eligible to represent the Spanish side in this competition but was not selected because of his international commitments with the Super Eagles and his recent promotion to the first team.
Villarreal had a great start, scoring three goals inside the opening 15 minutes through Mario González (2) and Sergio Lozano before Nikola Vujnovic made it four for the Yellows on 25 minutes.
The visitors were up by five when Adrian Riera scored from the edge of the box in the 53rd minute, Vujnovic netted from a tight angle to increase the lead, then Akale rounded off the scoring in injury time.
Last season, Adekanye was involved in all the three games contested by The Reds in the group stages against Newcastle United, Sparta Prague and PSV.
The 19-year-old now has two weeks to recover before Liverpool's next fixture in the Premier League International Cup against Hertha BSC.
