Portugal Defender To Cost Barcelona N2.1B If He Plays Against Samuel Chukwueze's Villarreal
Published: December 01, 2018Barcelona are set to pay Benfica 5,094,965 euros (approximately N2.1B in Nigerian currency) if Portugal international defender Nelson Semedo features against Samuel Chukwueze's Villarreal in La Liga on Sunday evening.
According to Marca, Semedo's contract between Barcelona and Benfica specified that, for every 50 matches played, the Portuguese club will receive such an amount.
Since the right back's arrival in Spain in the summer of 2017, he has played 49 matches in total, comprised of 32 matches in La Liga, 10 Champions League, 5 Copa del Rey and 2 in the Supercopa.
If Samuel Chukwueze gets some minutes against Barcelona, he might be involved in a personal duel with Semedo as the Nigeria international is a winger who can operate on both flanks.
The 19-year-old has started the last three matches played by Villarreal in the Spanish topflight, scoring two goals, but came off the bench for the last 17 minutes vs Rangers in the Europa League ahead of the trip to Camp Nou.
He earned his first call-up to the Nigeria National Team for the games against South Africa and Uganda after delivering some impressive displays for Villarreal's first team.
