Chelsea's Norway Stars Admit Group A Is Group Of Death: Nigeria Best Team From Pot Four
Published: December 09, 2018African champions, Nigeria, have been drawn in Group A of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup alongside hosts France, former European, World and Olympic champions Norway and South Korea.
Reacting to the draw that took place on Saturday, Chelsea's Norway stars Maren Mjelde and Maria Thorisdottir believe the Scandinavians were unfortunate in the draw as the group has the potential to be a group of death.
''The draw was very tough, but it was also when we played the European Championship. We like challenges,'' Mjelde said to TV2.
Asked if Group A is the Group of Death, the Norway captain replied : ''Yes. We get the host nation and the best teams from pot three and four, but it will be very exciting. We knew that no matter who we got, it would be tough''.
Maria Thorisdottir added : ''We are vikings so we drive on. We have a teammate from South Korea, so it's going to be cool.''
Thomas Dennerby's side will open their campaign against the Norwegians at Stade Auguste-Delaune, Reims on June 8.
They will then take on South Korea in Grenoble on June 12 followed by France in Rennes on June 17.
