Nmecha In Contention To Become Second Youngest Nigerian To Represent Man City Against Leicester City
Published: December 18, 2018German-born attacking midfielder Felix Nmecha is in contention to become the second youngest player of Nigerian descent to represent Manchester City's first team in a competitive match.
The teenager was spotted training with the first teamers on Monday morning ahead of their trip to Leicester, where they face Claude Puel's side in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
Manchester City are facing an injury crisis and manager Pep Guardiola admitted pre-match that some players who played the last game vs Everton will have to play against the Foxes as he wants to reach the semifinal.
Felix Nmecha made the match day squad but was an unused substitute as City came from behind to beat Hoffenheim 2-1 in the Champions League last week.
If he gets game-time at the King Power Stadium tonight, he'll overtake Tom Dele-Bashiru as the second youngest Nigerian to play for the Citizens, aged 18 years, 2 months and 8 days.
At 17 years, 11 months and 14 days, Warri-born Nedum Onuoha is the youngest Nigerian to play for the Citizens after debuting in a 2-1 loss to Arsenal on October 26, 2004 in the League Cup.
