Onazi All But Ruled Out Of 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations After Suffering Achilles Injury
Published: December 24, 2018Eddy Onazi is likely to miss next summer's Africa Cup of Nations after suffering an Achilles injury in Trabzonspor's 4-1 rout of Rizespor in a Turkish Super Lig clash on Sunday, December 23.
The Nigeria international had to be substituted in the 32nd minute due to the injury and is set to undergo an operation in the coming hours.
''Unfortunately Onazi suffered a ruptured achilles tendon. His season may well be over," said Trabzonspor president Ahmet Ağaoğlu.
Ahmet Ağaoğlu visited Onazi in the hospital to boost his morale before hie goes under the knife, an operation that will see him miss the remainder of the season.
The 25-year-old is an influential member of the Trabzonspor team who currently occupy the second position in the standings, having started all the matches in the league except the trip to Kayserispor which he missed as a result of accumulated bookings.
The former Lazio man won the Africa Cup of Nations hosted by South Africa in 2013.
