Official : 2013 AFCON-Winning Defender Quits Hibernian Former Nigeria international, Efe Ambrose has been officially revealed to have bid farewell to Scottish club, Hibernian after two years with the Edinburgh-based side.

The 30-year-old defender activated a clause in his contract which allows him seek pastures new instead of staying on at the Easter Road Stadium and signing an improved deal on his three-year contract with the club.

Having joined the Hibs on loan from Celtic in 2017, he helped them secure promotion to the Premiership and has played 21 topflight games this season.

"Hibernian FC can confirm the departure of Efe Ambrose after his move to invoke a contractual clause that allows him to leave this month.

"The club made every effort to keep Efe but respect his decision and wish him well.", a statement on the club's twitter handle read.

The centre-back started out professionally with hometown club, Kaduna United before moving on to Europe where he first turned out for FC Ashdod in Israeli Ligat Ha'al.

Ambrose was part of the Super Eagles side that won the 2013 AFCON tournament in South Africa.
