Brighton's Nigeria International Striker Scores Against Liverpool, Influential Babajide Missing
Published: January 06, 2019Goals from Nigeria international striker Ini Umotong and Laura Rafferty pushed Brighton & Hove to a 2-0 win over Liverpool FC Women at Prenton Park on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool were without their influential striker Rinsola Babajide, who had netted the winner against the Seagulls when both teams met in September 2018.
Umotong was the best player for Brighton & Hove today and played a part in the opening goal when her spectacular effort came back off the crossbar and Rafferty tapped home the rebound in the 33rd minute.
Three minutes into the second half, the Super Falcon doubled the visitors advantage, slotting a left-footed finish past goalkeeper Preuß.
Umotong's other goal in this season's Women's Super League was against leaders Arsenal in November.
The 24-year-old was left out of the Nigeria squad for the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana.
