Four Takeaways From Super Falcons Cyprus Women's Cup Campaign
Izuchukwu Okosi takes a look at four takeaways from the participation of the Super Falcons in the Cyprus Women's Cup where the African champions finished in  seventh place.

1. The European Jinx

The Super Falcons played four games in Cyprus; a 4-1 defeat to Austria (Europe), a 4-3 win over Slovakia (Europe), a 1-0 defeat to Belgium (Europe) and 3-0 win over Thailand (Asia).

Of the matches against the Europeans, Thomas Dennerby's team managed to nick a win at the expense of Slovakia who had to come back from three goals down but eventually lost after a late Anam Imoh goal for Nigeria.

This, in addition to last year's 8-0 whitewash in a friendly by World Cup hosts France who the Falcons play this summer  shows that perhaps the African champions would have to do more to stop embarrassing results at the World Cup against the European foes.

2.The Falcons Need Another Invitational Tournament Before France 2019

After the China and Cyprus Invitationals, the Super Falcons need at least one more of such games to continue their World Cup preparations.

The not too good results should spur them to prove their critics wrong. That is the essence of another opportunity. It will be confidence booster for the girls to head to the World Cup with some momentum.

3. The Defensive And Attacking Aspects of the Falcons' Game

The Super Falcons scored eight goals and conceded eight goals too in Cyprus.

It is indicative of the attacking talents in the group but also is worrying that they shipped in three and four goals in two matches from the four they played in.

4. Research And Study World Cup Group Opponents

The Falcons technical crew must endeavor to monitor the preparations of their World Cup Group A opponents; France, Norway and Korea Republic.

Armed with the videos of their recent matches and doing an extensive analysis of their playing styles, tactics and formations is key to avoiding a likely group stage elimination.
