Confirmed : Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City & Leicester academy products named in starting XI v Algeria
Published: September 27, 2022
Nigeria manager Jose Peseiro has announced his starting lineup for Tuesday evening's international friendly against 2019 African champions Algeria at the Miloud Hadefi Olympic Complex.
Hapoel Jerusalem glovesman Adebayo Adeleye has to wait for his senior debut as the Portuguese football tactician has selected Francis Uzoho to be in between the pipes - his seventh consecutive start for the Super Eagles.
Peseiro has stood by Leicester City academy product Calvin Bassey despite giving away a penalty in the second half of the 2-2 draw with Algeria's B team last Friday and he's partnered in central defence by Hoffenheim's Kevin Akpoguma, with Chelsea-reared defender Ola Aina and Zaidu Sanusi occupying the fullback positions.
Frank Onyeka and Hale End Academy product Alex Iwobi have been deployed in the center of midfield, with Manchester City academy product Kelechi Iheanacho playing further up in midfield.
Given Victor Osimhen's enforced absence due to injury, the attack picks itself with Moses Simon and Ademola Lookman supporting Terem Moffi.
Moffi, Lookman and Simon have been involved in fourteen goals (10 goals, 4 assists) combined for their respective clubs in the new season.
The Super Eagles starting lineup is as follows : Uzoho; Aina, Akpoguma, Bassey, Sanusi; Onyeka, Iwobi, Iheanacho; Lookman, Moffi, Simon
