QPR''s Super Eagles center back named in Championship Team of the Week
Published: October 24, 2022
Nigeria international Leon Balogun has been named in the Sky Bet Championship Team of the Week based on Whoscored.com's ratings.
The former Glasgow Rangers defender opened his account for the division's table toppers, Queens Park Rangers as they registered a 2-1 win over his former club Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
After Nathan Broadhead restored parity for Wigan, a set piece from Johansen was headed home by Balogun midway through the first half and it ultimately proved to be the match-winning strike.
In a 4-3-3 formation, Balogun is partnered in central defence by Coventry City's Kyle McFadzean, with Hull City's Greaves and Christie occupying the fullback positions.
The experienced Nigerian defender won three aerial duels against Wigan Athletic, made 54 touches, registered two tackles and a game-high nine clearances, completed one dribble and was accurate in 79.4 percent of his passes.
Balogun netted twice in 65 matches during his two-year association with Glasgow Rangers and his first goal in QPR's colours has come after only eight matches.
