100 best players in the world 2022 : Osimhen better than Odegaard, Mount, Jota, Antony
Published: November 20, 2022
Celebrated British football magazine FourFourTwo has ranked the best 100 players in the world for 2022 with only one Nigeria-eligible player in the shape of Victor Osimhen featuring on the list.
The Napoli striker ranked in 60th place but higher than several English Premier League stars.
Osimhen mustered 18 goals in twenty seven appearances in the Italian topflight in 2022, and on the international stage, he scored five goals in four outings for the Super Eagles.
His form has seen him being linked with a number of top Premier League clubs, with Manchester United and Chelsea credited with an interest in recent weeks.
On Osimhen, FourFourTwo wrote : "Napoli are flying this season and they largely have their Nigerian goal-machine to thank for that. Osimhen has been banging them in at a rate El Diego would have been proud of, with his pace and movement proving far too much for defenders to deal with.
"The 23-year-old forward is heavily linked with a move to the Premier League next summer. "
Osimhen ranked higher than Christian Eriksen (Manchester United, 64th), Raheem Sterling (Chelsea, 66th), Andrew Robertson (Liverpool, 67th), Martin Odegaard (Arsenal, 69th), Lisandro Martinez (Manchester United, 70th), Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool, 72nd) and Mason Mount (Chelsea, 75th).
The other Premier League players ranked below the Super Eagle include : Diogo Jota (Liverpool), Richarlison (Tottenham Hotspur), Aymeric Laporte (Man City), N'Golo Kante (Chelsea), Raphael Varane (Man Utd), Cristian Romero (Tottenham), Antony (Man Utd), Jack Grealish (Man City), Darwin Nunez (Liverpool), James Maddison (Leicester), Fabinho (Liverpool), Kai Havertz (Chelsea) and Granit Xhaka (Arsenal).
According to the publication, Erling Haaland, Karim Benzema, Kevin De Bruyne, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi are the top five players in the world in that order.
