Chukwuemeka named in Chelsea's travelling squad to Abu Dhabi, Abu omitted last minute
Published: December 05, 2022
Through their official website, Chelsea have announced a 25-man traveling squad for a warm weather training camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, with a player of Nigerian descent part of the group of players.
Manager Graham Potter has decided to include England U20 international Carney Chukwuemeka on the roster though there are concerns about his fitness.
The central midfielder has not figured for Chelsea since appearing as a substitute against Manchester United on October 22 due to a hamstring issue.
Chelsea will prepare for the resumption of the domestic season later this month by playing a friendly match against fellow Premier League side Aston Villa in the CBF | Al Wahda Challenge Cup on Sunday, December 11, before returning to the United Kingdom.
Allnigeriasoccer.com can report with certainty that exciting fullback Derrick Abu wa supposed to be named in the traveling squad but was dropped at the last minute.
He was initially informed to get ready for the trip to the United Arab Emirates but Potter scratched his name out of the list.
Abu was one of the development squad players invited to train with the first team last week.
Chelsea are back in competitive action against Bournemouth in a Premier League game on December 27.
