Arsenal-owned goalkeeper Okonkwo shortlisted for EFL League Two Player of the Month
Published: December 06, 2022
Arsenal-owned goalkeeper of Nigerian descent Arthur Okonkwo has been shortlisted for the EFL League Two Player of the Month for November 2022.
The Hale End Academy graduate started two matches played by Crewe Alexandra in the month of November, helping them post two shutouts in back-to-back matches against Colchester United and Swindon Town.
The Railwaymen secured maximum six points from the two matches after 1-0 wins.
Okonkwo also posted a clean sheet against Leyton Orient in the first round of the FA Cup, and started the second round clash against Barnsley, taking his total appearances in November to four in all competitions.
In his bid to win the Player of the Month award, the Arsenal loanee is up against Leyton Orient's central defender Omar Beckles, Bradford City's Andy Cook and Barrow attacker Billy Waters.
On why Okonkwo was nominated, the EFL wrote : "Clean sheets and Arthur Okonkwo’s agility have been key to Crewe Alexandra's recent revival.
"The 21-year-old Arsenal loanee produced a series of superb reaction saves in the win over Colchester United and another vital stop as Alex won away at Swindon Town."
Overall, Okonkwo has registered seven shutouts in 21 all-competition appearances for the Railwaymen.
