Three tasks before Super Eagles coach Peseiro ahead of 2023 AFCONQ restart
Published: December 08, 2022
The disappointment of Nigeria missing the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar is gradually blowing away.
All African sides in the tournament barring Morocco have been eliminated and soon attention will be focused on the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
All Nigeria Soccer here presents three things that Super Eagles boss Jose Peseiro must work on before the qualifiers begin again.
1. Review Matches Under His Stead
The Super Eagles have played a couple of friendlies under the reins of Jose Peseiro and the results have not been too great.
The Eagles lost to Mexico, Ecuador, Algeria and Portugal albeit there had also been the massive 10-0 Afcon qualifying win against São Tomé and Príncipe.
Peseiro would need to revisit these games and see areas to improve upon.
2. Decide Age Profile
Should he go with with a very young team in the new year, say no player above 30 makes the cut irrespective of their form, or would he mix and match youth and experience?
That is something Peseiro needs to consider.
3. Nigeria Foreign Based Players
Despite the opinion about some Nigerians regarding the invitation of some Nigerians born abroad in the team, the truth remains that they are Nigerians.
Such Nigerians would have been elated if Bukayo Saka opted to play for Nigeria rather than England as Alex Iwobi decided to.
There are a couple of players with Nigerian descent doing amazingly well in Europe that Peseiro has no choice but to invite provided they are keen on playing for Nigeria.
Examples of such players include Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace) who hasn't been lucky with England.
Perhaps there's something written in the stars for him as regards where his international future lies.
Same applies to Eze's teammate, Michael Olise.
