Chelsea ahead of Manchester United, Liverpool in race for African-born striker
Published: December 12, 2022
Chelsea are ahead of their Premier League rivals in the race to sign African-born center forward Youssoufa Moukoko.
According to The Athletic (subscription required), Chelsea could be in pole position to land the talented 18-year-old.
The Borussia Dortmund starlet will enter the last six months of his contract in January 2023 and discussions about him extending his stay at the Black and Yellows were put on hold due to his inclusion in Germany's squad to the 2022 World Cup.
If an agreement is not reached on a new contract, Chelsea could be facing competition from Manchester United and Liverpool for his signature.
The Blues are reportedly in the market for a new striker in the winter transfer market as a possible replacement for the aging Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the long term, while Armando Broja got injured in the recent friendly with Aston Villa and could be out of action for several weeks.
On December 8, 2020, Moukoko broke Celestine Babayaro's record as the youngest player to feature in the Champions League when he made his debut for Borussia Dortmund aged 16 years and 18 days.
Born in Yaounde, Cameroon, he has directly participated in nineteen goals (11 goals, 8 assists) in 59 all-competition appearances for Dortmund.
