The reason Super Eagles star missed West Brom's 2-1 win against Sunderland
Published: December 13, 2022
Super Eagles star Semi Ajayi was a surprise omission from West Brom's matchday squad in their 2-1 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Monday night.
The central defender has not played competitively for the Baggies since he went off injured at Wigan Athletic on August 30.
It was thought his injury problems were over as he returned to full training just before the World Cup break and traveled with the Baggies squad for a mid-season training camp in Spain.
The former Arsenal U21 skipper played the entirety of the second half in the friendly against Elche.
According to Birmingham Live, West Brom manager Carlos Corberán could not count on the services of Ajayi for the visit to Sunderland because he suffered a shoulder injury in training, which the severity is not known as of now.
The 29-year-old has missed sixteen matches played by West Brom so far this season and was used in seven games, all of which he started.
West Brom came from behind to beat the Black Cats thanks to second-half goals from substitutes Tom Rogic and Daryl Dike
