West Brom's Nigeria defender doubtful to face former club Rotherham United
Published: December 14, 2022
Semi Ajayi has emerged as an injury worry for West Brom ahead of their Championship clash against Rotherham United, Baggies boss Carlos Corberan has confirmed.
The former Arsenal U21 skipper was not available for selection in West Brom's last match against Sunderland due to a shoulder injury he suffered in training.
Corberan does not think Ajayi's injury is too bad but he may not have fully recovered before Saturday's home game against his former club Rotherham United.
"i was thinking to play with Semi in this position because he was fine from the previous (long-term ankle) injury, but he was involved in one accident in training," Corberan was quoted as saying by Express & Star.
"He went to the floor and he suffered a problem with his shoulder. We still had doubts the day before the game, but it was impossible for him to have his normal mobility. It’s not an important injury but we need to wait."
Ajayi as not played competitively for the Baggies since he went off injured at Wigan Athletic on August 30, missing fourteen consecutive games in the Championship.
The 29-year-old was not called up for Nigeria's friendlies against Algeria and Portugal due to fitness issues.
During his time at Rotherham United, he appeared in 108 matches across all competitions, scoring fifteen goals.
