'We hope to win' - Flying Eagles head coach confident ahead of U20 AFCON
Published: December 15, 2022
Flying Eagles head coach Ladan Bosso has expressed belief that his team can win the CAF U-20 African Cup of Nations in Egypt early next year.
The Nigerian U-20 will campaign in the tournament as one of the favorites after winning the WAFU Zone B tournament this year.
"With the support of the stakeholders, we hope to win the Afcon just like the WAFU.
"We have three friendlies with NPFL clubs before embarking on Christmas break," Bosso further told sports journalists.
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria and neighbors Benin, will be the flag bearers of the WAFU Zone B in Egypt when the tournament begins on February 18. The final will hold on March 12.
Benin topped Group A of the WAFU Zone B while Nigeria topped Group B after edging out Burkina Faso on goal difference and ultimately won the title.
Nigeria are seven times winner of the U-20 AFCON and will be making their comeback since 2019, in what will be their 18th appearance at the tournament, the joint highest alongside Egypt.
The Flying Eagles last won the competition in 2015.
