Should Super Eagles goalkeeper seek a loan move away from Watford in January?
Published: December 16, 2022
Nigeria goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has not been playing regularly for Championship side Watford since his arrival from the Dutch Eredivisie side, Sparta Rotterdam.
Okoye has made just one appearance for Watford on 23 August 2022 against MK Dons in the Carabao Cup which the Vicarage Road side lost 2-0.
With the January transfer window approximately two weeks away, allnigeriasoccer.com believes it will be in the best interest of all parties concerned that Okoye seeks a new club.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations was not the best of tournaments on a personal level for Okoye as his error leading to the goal scored by Tunisia’s Youssef Msakni culminated in the exit of the three-time African champions in the round of 16 stage.
Okoye faced lots of harsh criticisms and even a threat to his life which has made him understandably hesitant about national team commitments.
Nonetheless Okoye remains a good goalkeeper with huge possibilities and a chance to grow.
That experience in international football has not aided his confidence so a move away from the Championship to where he will be guaranteed playing time could see the 'new Okoye' show up again.
