Official : FC Lugano sign 2020 Super Eagles invitee Sebastian Osigwe to contract extension
Published: December 16, 2022
With a statement on their official website, Swiss Super League side FC Lugano have announced that 2020 Super Eagles invitee Sebastian Osigwe has signed a new deal with the club.
Osigwe's contract has been renewed for three seasons, until June 30, 2026.
Lugano have shown faith in the goalkeeper by handing him a new deal despite his limited first team opportunities.
The former Nigeria U20 international has played just two games this season, logging 180 minutes from a possible 1890 in all competitions.
Osigwe has played second fiddle to Switzerland U21 international Amir Saipi in the last two seasons but has proved to be a reliable backup when called upon.
Speaking on Osigwe's new contract, Lugano sporting director Carlos Da Silva said: "We are happy to have renewed Sebastian Osigwe's contract.
"He is not only a precious element for the dressing room, but also a quality goalkeeper who has repeatedly shown that he is worthy of the Super League.
"In training he always gives his best. His professionalism is an example for his younger teammates, as well as a point of reference for his colleagues.
"Finding a profile like this, in football and in the specific role of the goalkeeper, is by no means a given."
Osigwe was a non-playing substitute in Nigeria's Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Sierra Leone in November 2020.
The 28-year-old lists FC Luzern, FC Emmenbrücke and Zug 94 among his previous clubs.
