Seven-time Brazilian champions priced out of deal for N0.7b-rated Super Eagles winger
Published: December 21, 2022
Sport Club Corinthians Paulista have been priced out of a deal to sign Nigeria international winger Saviour Godwin.
According to ESPN, Godwin was a player of interest to the Corinthians manager but negotiations were never at an advanced stage as Casa Pia only agreed to start serious talks if the player's asking price of 1.5 million euros (approximately N0.7 billion in Nigerian currency) was met.
The seven-time Brazilian Serie A champions pulled out of negotiations with Casa Pia because they were not ready to pay the transfer fee being demanded by the Portuguese setup.
Casa Pia have a good financial standing and are not willing to sell their top players in the January transfer window, but will consider bids at the end of the current season.
Godwin is attracting interest from clubs in Spain and Italy ahead of the 2023-2024 campaign.
The 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup winner has seen his stock rise after some impressive displays for Casa Pia in the Liga Portugal, scoring three goals in thirteen matches.
On the international stage, the 26-year-old made his senior debut for the Super Eagles in a friendly against Algeria back in September.
