German who sanctioned sale of Lookman to Atalanta appointed Chelsea Technical Director
Published: December 21, 2022
With a statement on their official website, Premier League giants Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Christopher Vivell as the new Technical Director of the club.
The German takes over the post of technical director at The Blues - a similar role he held at Bundesliga club RB Leipzig until the beginning of October.
Vivelll is now responsible for talent scouting and the overall strategy for squad planning at Chelsea.
The 36-year-old sanctioned the sale of Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman to Italian Serie A outfit Atalanta in the summer transfer window, with the Red Bull club set to pocket a guaranteed nine million euros in transfer fee.
The Nigeria international had been loaned out to Premier League duo Fulham and Leicester City in back-to-back seasons during Vivell's spell as technical director of RB Leipzig.
Lookman has adapted to the Serie A like a duck to water, scoring seven goals in fifteen appearances.
Vivell also knows a thing or two about another Super Eagles star, Kevin Akpoguma as he previously worked at TSG Hoffenheim as a scout and match analyst.
Retired Nigeria international and 1994 World Cup star Michael Emenalo was technical director of Chelsea 2011-2017.
