'You wouldn't want the unrest' - Ex-Liverpool star warns Everton against selling Iwobi

Former Liverpool and England star Stephen Warnock has warned Everton not to make the big mistake of selling Alex Iwobi.

The Nigeria national teamer will enter the last one year of his contract with Everton at the end of the season, and it has been extensively reported that the powers that be at the Toffees are making good progress in contract negotiations with the player's camp.

A lot of fans had questioned the signing of Iwobi from Arsenal in 2019 but all of a sudden he has been performing well since Frank Lampard took over the managerial reins.

Iwobi has emerged as a key player under Lampard, starting every single game played by the club this season, including the ongoing match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Hale End Academy product has thrived in central midfield, scoring one goal and assisting six in seventeen outings across all competitions this term.

From the point of view of Warnock, Iwobi is the most important player in the Everton squad ahead of England's World Cup star Jordan Pickford and Anthony Gordon.

With only 11 goals in 15 matches before the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers,  the second worst in the division, Everton could be forced into signing a proven goalscorer in the January transfer window.

Speaking on BBC's Final Score, Warnock said : "The big problem I see for Frank Lampard at the moment is what he does in January. How does he go out and buy players? There's value in three players: Pickford, Gordon and Iwobi.

"Iwobi is arguably Everton's best player and he's out of contract in the summer (of 2024), so you wouldn't want the unrest selling him would cause."

He added : "Does Lampard cash in and sell one of those players? They need goals."

Everton paid 28 million pounds to land the signature of  Iwobi from Arsenal plus an additional 7 million pounds in performance-related add-ons.
