Nigerian agent says Chelsea a big step for new signing Fofana but not ruling out loan move
Published: December 28, 2022
Atta Aneke, the Oslo-based Nigerian agent who brokered the deal that took David Datro Fofana to Chelsea, has admitted that his client joining the Premier League giants is a big step in the striker's career.
Chelsea announced on Wednesday that it has reached a pre-agreement with Molde FK for the transfer of David Datro Fofana and the attacker will join the Blues with effect from January 1, 2023.
"It is a dream, after all. I will admit that Chelsea is a big step for him now, but when such opportunities arise for a young player with such crazy potential as he has, you just have to take the chance," Aneke said to VG.
Aneke has refused to rule out Fofana being loaned out in the January transfer window and stressed that it is in line with Chelsea's transfer strategy to sign young talented players.
He added : "They want to sign the best young talents in the world, and have a very clear plan on how to make them succeed as best as possible."
Molde will receive 12 million euros from the sale of Fofana - the most expensive outbound transfer in Norwegian football history.
The previous record holder was Erik Botheim, who moved from Bodo/Glimt to Krasnodar in exchange for 9.5 million euros.
On breaking the Norwegian transfer record, Aneke said : "t is also a proud moment for us when we not only break a Norwegian transfer record, but crush it. I think it's a record that will stand for many years.
"It's fun for Norwegian football that you can sell directly to that type of league, but also that you can participate and contribute to getting so much money into Norwegian football".
Aneke also brokered the deal that took Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo from Watford to Changchun Yatai for a fee of 23.3 million euros in January 2017, which was the highest fee paid for a Nigerian player at the time.
