Brentford on brink of deal for Super Eagles-eligible striker
Published: January 03, 2023
Premier League side Brentford are on the verge of completing the signing of Super Eagles-eligible forward Kevin Schade.
According to Sky Sports, Brentford have agreed a deal to sign the promising SC Freiburg player Schade on an initial loan until the end of the season.
The proposed deal comes with an obligation to buy Schade in the summer which is directly dependent on whether certain performance-related add-ons are met.
The Germany U21 international of Nigerian descent is on his way to the English capital to undergo a medical examination with The Bees.
Brentford attempted to sign the German-Nigerian last summer but their offer in the region of 20 million euros was deemed insufficient to persuade Freiburg to allow the player leave.
Schade has not played much this season as he was recovering from an abdominal muscle injury suffered in March 2022,
The 21-year-old has made 29 career appearances in the German Bundesliga since making his debut against Borussia Dortmund in August 2021, registering his name on the scoresheet on five occasions and provided an assist.
Brentford are in the market for a striker as cover for Ivan Toney, who could be banned by the Football Association over alleged breaches of betting rules.
