'We had a good chance with Iwobi' - Lampard emphasises first half was even in big loss to Brighton

Everton were ripped apart by Brighton & Hove in a Premier League game at Goodision Park, suffering a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Seagulls on Tuesday night.

Kaorum Mitoma set Brighton & Hove on their way with a 14th minute strike, Evan Ferguson doubled the advantage in the 51st minute, then Solly March got in on the act, before Pascal Gross added gloss to the scoreline.

In the first minute of second half stoppage time, Demarai Gray pulled one back when he converted a penalty, which was awarded after Alex Iwobi was brought down by Robert Sanchez in the box.

Everton were undone in the second half as they conceded three goals in the space of six minutes.

Speaking post-match, Everton manager Frank Lampard emphasized that it was an even first half and to buttress his point, he cited Iwobi's great chance to break the deadlock early in the contest.

In the fourth minute, the Super Eagles playmaker fired a shot low but was denied by a fine stop from Brighton goalkeeper Sanchez.

Speaking to Sky Sports, via BBC, Lampard said : "Possession-wise [the game was] even. They hit the post and scored from our mistake.

"We had a good chance with Alex I wanted more urgency. I didn't think there was much in it."

Iwobi has not found the net in the Premier League since October 9, 2022 when he opened the scoring in a 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Goodison Park.
