Official : Arsenal recall Super Eagles-eligible midfielder from loan spell
Published: January 04, 2023Premier League leaders Arsenal have recalled Super Eagles-eligible midfielder Miguel Azeez from his loan spell with Spanish Segunda Division club Unión Deportiva Ibiza.
UD Ibiza announced on Wednesday, January 4 that Azeez is no longer a player of the club and they have reached an agreement with Arsenal to finish the loan before its expiration.
The initial agreement, if it was honored, would have seen the England youth international of Nigerian descent remain at the Spanish second tier club until the end of the current season, June 2023.
Azeez struggled to break into UD Ibiza's starting lineup since the start of November, making two appearances as a starter from a possible eight in the division.
Overall, the Hale End Academy graduate logged 667 minutes in eleven games, including ten in the Segunda Division.
Last January, the Gunners also cut short his loan spell at Football League side Portsmouth due to his lack of game time.
Azeez has been called up for ten first team games by manager Mkel Arteta, and made his professional debut in a Europa League match against Dundalk in December 2020 - his only appearance for the first team to date.
