'Brilliant decision' - Crystal Palace icon hails Nottingham Forest star for setting up Awoniyi's goal
Published: January 04, 2023Nottingham Forest's goal on Wednesday scored by Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi against bottom - placed side,Southampton has been hailed as brilliant by Crystal Palace legend Clinton Morrison.
Morrison, who also turned out for Brentford and Birmingham City during his playing days, currently works as a television pundit.
Morrison at the Premier League world feed studio on Wednesday commended Brennan Johnson for being unselfish as he assisted Awoniyi's match-winning goal at the Saint Mary's stadium.
Johnson over the weekend went for glory in Forest's game against Chelsea but saw his direct shot saved by Chelsea goalkeeper despite Awoniyi being in a good position to score.
"Obviously on the weekend against Chelsea when he (Awoniyi) had an opportunity, it didn't work but when he's in the right place, he probably said: "make sure you square it to me this time," Morrison noted knowingly.
"Brennan Johnson gets his head up and squares it. Awoniyi had a simple tap-in. Brilliant decision from Berran Johnson," Morrison added.
The Nigerian duo of Joe Aribo and Sam Edozie came off the bench in the 64th minute for Southampton to replace Romeo Lavia and Romain Perraud respectively.
Nottingham Forest climbed to the 15th place in the table with 17 points after 18 games while Southampton remain bottom of the log with 12 points from 18 League matches.
The Saints have now lost six consecutive league matches.
