Italian Serie A : Four things noticed from Nigerian strikers' performances against Juventus
Published: January 05, 2023
Cremonese lost 1-0 to Juventus Wednesday evening as the Italian Serie A returns following the break occasioned by the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Juventus left it late before scoring a decisive goal and Nigerian duo of Cyriel Dessers and David Okereke were on action for Cremonese and put in good performances.
Allnigeriasoccer.com presents the four takeaways from their games.
1. Good link up plays
Both strikers have good understanding of themselves and were willing to find each other as and when due.
It will be nice to have them in the Nigerian national team. Who knows: they might be great backups for Victor Osimhen in a two-pronged attacking system.
2. Dessers On The Wing
Dessers was denied the chance to net his third Serie A goal of the season in the 69th when his left footed shot rattled the upright.
Dessers made that incursion to the Juventus defence from the left side of the attack and it could be an indication that he is able to play from the left side of the attack.
The former Feyernoord and Racing Genk forward had a goal chalked off for a foul in the buildup.
3. Okereke Drops Deep
David Okereke had an early chance within the first minute to put Cremonese ahead but saw his shot deflected for a corner kick.
Okereke was also noticeably dropping deep to pick up loose balls. His delicate footworks also created all sorts of problems for the Juve backline.
4. Commentators' Delight
The English commentary team covering the game kept harping on the past clubs and successes of both players especially Dessers whose team reached the final of the UEFA Conference League last season and lost in the final to Jose Mourinho's AS Roma.
The phrase: "Nigerian duo" was used more than twice in the course of the game.
