Manchester United 3 Everton 1 : Iwobi stretchered off the pitch to add to Toffees misery
Published: January 06, 2023Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi could be set for a spell on the sidelines following a nasty ankle injury he copped in Friday evening's FA Cup third round clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The game ended 3-1 for Erik ten Hag's men, sending the Red Devils to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The Nigerian was having a relatively good game until two minutes into the second half when he was badly tackled by United's left back Tyrell Malacia which required a stretcher.
United were quick off the blocks and their early pressure paid off in the 4th minute as Marcus Rashford found Brazilian forward Antony who on a full stretch, bundled the ball home.
Within 10 of that goal though, Everton were level, with Conor Coady capitalizing on a mistake from De Gea who let the ball squirm through his legs to score the equalizer for the Toffees.
Iwobi brilliantly blocked a shot at the edge of the box in the 38th minute but some seconds later almost caused his team some pains as he was dispossessed of the ball by Rashford but United's counter attack came to nothing.
Iwobi was then stretched off in the 49th minute when he went under a challenge from Malacia, and it looked quite a serious problem for the Nigerian international as he was in significant pains
United got in front again in the 52nd minute. The in-form Rashford skipped past two markers before drilling home.
United were awarded a penalty towards the end of the game when Ben Godfrey brought down Alejandro Garnacho.
.Rashford who was adjudged the Man of the Match, stepped up and scored his106th goal for the Red Devils.
