PL 2 : Flying Eagles-eligible winger on target as Man Utd begin 2023 with a win
Published: January 07, 2023
Manchester United's development squad began 2023 with a victory, beating Fulham 2-1 in a Premier League 2 clash at Motspur Park training ground on Friday night.
Flying Eagles-eligible winger Shola Shoretire was on duties for United's U21 team, so was not available for selection for the first team's FA Cup third round match against Everton.
Shoretire, assisted by Joe Hugill, opened the scoring for Manchester United in the 21st minute.
The England youth international of Nigerian descent put the ball in at the far post after meeting a cross.
Hugill turned from provider to scorer when he doubled the visitors' lead in the 34th minute with a predatory finish, before Charlie Robinson tapped in at minute 72 to reduce the deficit.
Shoretire has now scored six goals in twelve all-competition appearances for Manchester United U21s this term.
The 18-year-old has received call-ups for Premier League, Europa League and Carabao Cup matches this season but has yet to play his first game under manager Erik ten Hag.
