Confirmed injury update on Iwobi : Super Eagles playmaker expected to return against Arsenal
Published: January 08, 2023
With a statement on their official website, Everton have confirmed that Super Eagles playmaker Alex Iwobi faces three weeks on the sidelines.
Allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported earlier today that the injury suffered by Iwobi is not as bad as first feared, with Everton medics diagnosing that his ankle is not broken, but bruised and swollen.
The Toffees number 17 suffered the injury during the 3-1 loss to Manchester United in an Emirates FA Cup fixture on Friday night.
Iwobi landed awkwardly after he was accidentally caught on the ankle by Manchester United fullback Tyrell Malacia as he broke forward, and was taken off on a stretcher.
After scans, it was discovered that the Hale End Academy product sustained a lateral ligament injury that will be managed conservatively by the club’s medical team at Finch Farm.
Based on the medical report released by the Toffees on Sunday, Iwobi is not expected to return to action until February 4 when Everton face off with his former employers Arsenal in a Premier League clash at Goodison Park.
Manager Frank Lampard will not be able to call upon the Hale End Academy product for the Premier League matches against Southampton (January 14) and West Ham United (January 21).
If Iwobi's rehabilitation goes according to plan, the injury will not prevent him from linking up with the Nigeria squad for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches with Guinea-Bissau in March.
