'You cannot lose Gakpo, Madueke' - Ex-Brighton star warns PSV against selling Chelsea target
Published: January 16, 2023
Former Brighton & Hove defender Hans Kraay Jr has reacted to speculation linking PSV Eindhoven winger Nonso Madueke with a transfer to Premier League giants Chelsea in the January transfer window.
Chelsea want to further strengthen their attack and have set the wheels in motion to sign the England U20 international of Nigerian descent, making an initial bid of 30 million euros to land his signature.
Despite speculation surrounding the future of Madueke, the winger went the full ninety as PSV were held to a 2-2 draw by Fortuna Sittard in an Eredivisie clash on Sunday afternoon, a result that kept the Eindhoven club fourth in the table with 32 points - five less than table toppers Feyenoord.
Hans Kraay Jr has warned the powers that be at PSV not to sell Madueke in this window after losing another influential player Cody Gakpo, who joined Liverpool in exchange for €42m this month.
"I can imagine Van Nistelrooij jumping off the flat. You cannot lose Gakpo and Madueke, then you throw the title in the trash," says Kraay Jr. at Good morning Eredivisie on ESPN, via Voetbal Primeur.
"I would lie down for this, whatever the supervisory board wants. Then just be as hard as FC Twente was to Ramiz Zerrouki.
"With Gakpo you lose half of the goals and Madueke is a bonus, he has hardly played in the first half of the season. Van Nistelrooij has to lie down for this."
Madueke has played nonstop at PSV since 2018, registering 34 goal involvements in 80 appearances in all competitions.
