Manchester United's Anglo-Nigerian wonderkid touted as a loan target for EFL club
Published: January 19, 2023EFL League One club Bolton Wanderers have reportedly identified Shola Shoretire as a potential replacement for another winger of Nigerian descent Dapo Afolayan.
Afolayan, who learned his trade with Chelsea, completed a permanent transfer to 2. Bundesliga club St. Pauli on Thursday, and the Trotters are now in the market for a short-term replacement for the 25-year-old.
According to Football League World, football journalist Alan Nixon has touted Manchester United wonderkid Shoretire as a potential replacement for Afolayan and claimed that a deal could be struck before the close of the January transfer window.
It has been suggested that United are willing to consider loan offers for the 18-year-old this month.
Shoretire was also linked with a loan move last summer but first team boss Erik ten Hag reportedly blocked the England underage international from leaving the Red Devils in the days leading up to the close of the transfer window.
The 18-year-old has made five career appearances for United's first team including three in the Premier League, but has yet to play a single competitive game since the Dutchman was appointed coach even though he often trains with the senior players.
In the current season, Shoretire has scored six goals in twelve outings for the development squad in Premier League 2 and Papa Johns Trophy matches.
