Official : Lorient-owned German-Nigerian CB joins Schalke 04 after leaving Celtic
Published: January 26, 2023
With a statement on their official website, German Bundesliga side Schalke 04 have announced the signing of German-Nigerian central defender Moritz Jenz.
On Wednesday, the Lorient-owned player hinted a transfer was imminent by bidding farewell to everyone associated with Glasgow Celtic, where he spent the last six months on loan from the French Ligue 1 club.
Jenz has decided to move on to pastures new five months before his stay at The Hoops was supposed to come to an end due to his lack of first team opportunities, having failed to taste action in the last eight games played by the Scottish powerhouse in all competitions.
The 23-year-old has joined Schalke 04 in the form of a loan until the end of the 2022-2023 season and the move will become permanent if the Royal Blues avoid relegation at the end of this campaign.
Jenz played for several youth teams in the Berlin area before joining the Fulham Academy in England at the age of thirteen.
The Berlin native will be wearing the number 25 at the back of his jersey during his loan spell at Schalke 04.
He played nineteen games in all competitions for Celtic, including starting every game played in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, and wrote his name on the scoresheet on two occasions.
