'Rejected Man Utd', 'Best right-back', 'Cute' : Nigerian fans react to Chelsea signing of Gusto
Published: January 29, 2023
English Premier League giants Chelsea announced on Sunday that exciting defender Malo Gusto has completed a permanent move from Lyon.
However, the 19-year-old, a France U21 international, will be spending the remainder of the season on loan at the French Ligue 1 club before returning to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Gusto has signed a deal that will keep him at Chelsea until at least the end of the 2029-2030 season and will provide competition for Reece James next term.
A right back by trade, Gusto is credited with 54 career appearances for Lyon and has provided six assists.
As part of their Vision 2030 project, Chelsea owners have bolstered the squad with the signings of Wesley Fofana, Benoît Badiashile, Carney Chukwuemeka, Noni Madueke, Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana and Gabriel Slonina this season.
Several Chelsea fans based in Nigeria have taken to social media to react to the signing of Gusto.
The fans are pleased with the signing of the promising fullback and one of them noted that the player chose Chelsea over Manchester United, while another praised the work done by American owner Todd Boehly.
