Danish club to pocket N0.8b from Genk's sale of Onuachu to Southampton
Published: February 01, 2023
Danish Superliga side FC Midtjylland will laugh all the way to the bank following Paul Onuachu's move to Premier League side Southampton on transfer deadline day.
Racing Genk agreed to terminate their contract with Onuachu in exchange for 18 million euros, which could rise to 21 million euros if certain performance-related variables are met.
It's common knowledge that FC Midtjylland inserted a sell-on clause into the deal taking the Nigeria international to Racing Genk in August 2019.
Danish newspaper Herning Folkeblad writes that Midtjylland will pocket 15 percent of the transfer fee Southampton paid for their academy graduate after the deduction of the fee Genk paid for the Nigerian.
Midtjylland will receive 12 million Danish krone (approximately N0.8 billion in Nigerian currency or 1.6 million euros).
The towering striker joined Midtjylland in 2012 from partner club FC Ebedei and went on to score 74 goals in 181 matches before he was poached by Racing Genk.
Rasmus Ankersen, Southampton's majority shareholder, knows the qualities of Onuachu as he was for a number of years chairman of the board of FC Midtjylland.
