2023 Flying Eagles invitee, 2 other Nigerians nominated for Crystal Palace Goal of the Month
Published: February 03, 2023
English Premier League club Crystal Palace have revealed the nominees for the Goal of the Month for January 2023 with three Nigeria-eligible players in the running for the award.
2023 Flying Eagles invitee Ademola Ola-Adebomi, who recently trained with the national team in Abuja, has been shortlisted for the award, along with 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise and talented 18-year-old striker Victor Akinwale.
The trio are up against Crystal Palace U18 duo Rio Cardines and Joseph Gibbard, and Women's defender Hollie Olding.
Ola-Adebomi has been nominated for his strike in the 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove in the Premier League 2 on January 8.
Eight minutes before halftime, the lanky center forward with a sweet turn and finish made it 3-0.
Olise should be the favorite to win the Goal of the Month considering that his sumptuous free-kick effort against Manchester United has also been nominated for the Premier League Goal of the Month.
Akinwale's tap in which proved to be the game-winner in the development squad's 1-0 win at Liverpool on January 22 is also on the shortlist.
The aforementioned Nigerian players will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of 2017 Super Eagles invitee Eberechi Eze, who won Crystal Palace's Goal of the Month for December 2022.
