Official : Graham Potter opts against including Madueke in Chelsea's Champions League squad
Published: February 03, 2023
Through their official website, Chelsea have announced their updated squad for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League following the closure of the January transfer window.
According to UEFA rules, clubs are allowed to register a maximum of three new players during the winter, and it does not matter if the players have already played in the Champions League for a different club earlier in the season.
Chelsea bolstered their squad with the signings of Chukwunonso Madueke, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Benoît Badiashile, Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana, João Félix and Enzo Fernández, while talented goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina is back at Stamford Bridge following the expiration of his loan deal at Chicago Fire.
Blues boss Graham Potter has opted against including Madueke in the Champions League squad.
As expected the three new names in the List A are Joao Felix, Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk, who played for Atlético de Madrid, Benfica and Shakhtar Donetsk respectively in the group stage this season.
Madueke has been classed as an U21 player in Chelsea's Premier League squad.
Carney Chukwuemeka is in contention to make his debut in the Champions League as the midfielder has been included in the squad.
