Confirmed team news : Super Eagles midfielder misses Arsenal v Brentford
Published: February 11, 2023
Super Eagles star Frank Onyeka will not be named in Brentford's matchday squad against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, Bees manager Thomas Frank has confirmed.
The Danish football tactician revealed at the pre-match press conference that the game has come too soon for the holding midfielder.
Onyeka has not figured for the Bees since their 2-1 win at Manchester City before the World Cup break.
The FC Ebedei product was not available for selection against Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Leeds United and Southampton in the Premier League, plus the FA Cup clash against the Hammers.
Thomas Frank has suggested that the Super Eagles star is in the final stage of his recovery and his return is getting closer, with the Nigerian back in group training this week.
Providing a squad update, Thomas Frank was quoted as saying by Brentford's official webpage : "Pontus [Jansson] and [Frank] Onyeka are just too short to be involved in the squad.
"Frank has trained fully the last two days, and Pontus is close to full training. It’s very positive."
Arsenal are five points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand on second-placed Manchester City.
