'Played at a high level at Chelsea' - Nigeria great Okocha hails 2013 AFCON winner Victor Moses
Published: February 13, 2023
Nigeria legend Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has labeled Victor Moses 'a great footballer' and has backed the midfielder to fully recover from injury and help Spartak Moscow become Russian Premier League champions.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner has not played competitively for the Muscovites since suffering an Achilles tendon injury against Ural on matchday four in the Russian Premier League on August 6, 2022.
Moses is making good progress from the injury that required surgery and was named in Spartak Moscow's traveling squad for a training camp in Abu Dhabi ahead of the resumption of the RPL.
The Red and Whites were second in the standings with 36 points, six less than table toppers Zenit Saint Petersburg, before the winter break.
Okocha highlighted that Moses is a player with pedigree given that he represented Chelsea in high profile competitions such as the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Club World Cup.
The 32-year-old was a key member of the last Chelsea side to win the Premier League, under manager Antonio Conte, in the 2016-2017 season.
"Victor is a great football player who played at a high level at Chelsea and is now showing his worth at Spartak," Okocha said to Russian website Sport24.
"It is a pity that he has an injury, but I want to wish him only the very best.
"I am sure that when Moses recovers from the injury and returns to the squad, he will help Spartak become the champion."
Moses was on the books of Chelsea for nine years, before sealing a permanent transfer to Spartak Moscow in 2021.
