'I expect same against Liverpool' - Arsenal legend explains Iwobi's defensive duty for Everton
Published: February 13, 2023
Ian Wright has commended the good defensive job of Super Eagles winger cum midfielder, Alex Iwobi at his Premier League club, Everton.
Iwobi is an attack-minded player but has also helped in cutting out threats from opposition wing players and that has impressed the Arsenal legend.
Wright spoke on Premier League Productions' The Kelly and Wrighty Show on his expectations from the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton.
The game kicks off at 9pm Nigerian time.
"Everton stifled Arsenal the other day and made it difficult for Martinelli and Saka operating from the wings," Wright noted while analyzing the match.
"Much of that also depended on the efforts of Iwobi and Dwight McNeil to get back and support the full backs.
"I expect same same against Liverpool."
Everton are only above Bournemouth and Southampton at the foot of the table but are confident of causing issues for their city rivals.
Meanwhile, speaking on the impact of new manager, Sean Dyche on him since his arrival, Iwobi told The Daily Mirror:
"The manager has helped me a lot tactically. And his attention to detail - he doesn't miss anything.
On the best possible way to escape relegation, Iwobi said the following:
"It is a mindset thing. It is having that mentality to go into every game like we did against Arsenal.
“Maybe that wasn’t the same 13 games ago. We have to produce it consistently now. That’s what the manager wants - start with hard work, selfless running, selfless things for the team. And we’ve all bought into it."
