Iheanacho joins Chelsea and Man Utd stars, 7 others in BBC's PL Team of the Week
Published: February 14, 2023
BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has included Kelechi Iheanacho in his Team of the Week for match day 23 in the division after the striker helped Leicester City register a convincing 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The Nigeria international has been enjoying a new lease of life since the start of 2023, with a goal involvement of seven (4 goals, 3 assists) from seven appearances across all competitions.
Against Antonio Conte's team, Iheanacho provided the assist for the Foxes second goal and turned from provider to scorer in first half stoppage time when he guided the ball into the bottom corner.
Leicester City have three players in the Team of the Week, followed by Manchester United with two, while Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham, Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City have contributed one player each.
Crooks selected Guaita in goal, and the defenders are Craig Dawson, Wout Faes and Luke Shaw, while he has gone for James Maddison, Kevin de Bruyne, Enzo Fernandez and Willian in midfield.
The three-man attack consists of Marcus Rashford, Ivan Toney and Iheanacho.
Explaining the decision to pick Iheanacho in the Team of the Week, Crooks said : "Rodgers is a good coach and there is no doubt he seems to have got Iheanacho back to his best again.
"We know the Nigeria international can score goals but he is at his best when his touch is good, he sees the pass and is generally wreaking havoc in opposition defences.
"And that is precisely what he did against Tottenham."
With the exception of the win against Stockport County in the Carabao Cup, Iheanacho has scored in all the matches he has started this season.
