'We'll see what happens' - Everton loanee Branthwaite wants to emulate Chelsea winger Madueke
Published: February 15, 2023
Everton loanee Jarrad Branthwaite has said that he wants to follow in the footsteps of Chelsea's Anglo-Nigerian winger Chukwunonso Madueke.
The England underage international joined PSV Eindhoven on a season-long loan last July and has forced his way into the starting lineup under manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, having started the last nine games contested by the club in all competitions.
PSV are impressed with the development of Branthwaite, who has a contract at Everton until 2025, and are hoping to sign him on a permanent basis but could be facing competition from other clubs.
Madueke turned down a scholarship deal at Tottenham Hotspur in 2018 in favour of a move to PSV, where he rose through the ranks before making his professional debut.
After four and a half years at PSV, the Super Eagles-eligible winger took a big leap in his career when he was acquired by Premier League giants Chelsea for a fee in the region of 40 million euros in the January transfer window.
Madueke has inspired Branthwaite to tread the same path amid speculation surrounding the future of the Everton-owned player.
"The route Noni has taken could be an example for me. He has taken a nice step after a few seasons at PSV," Branthwaite said to Voetbal International, via psv.supporters.nl
"We'll see what happens, it's something for later this season and not for now."
Madueke has been involved in two games for Chelsea's first team since his arrival at Stamford Bridge but will not be making his third consecutive appearance in Wednesday's Champions League clash at Borussia Dortmund because he was not registered for the competition.
