Manchester United target 2022 World Cup winner as alternative to Osimhen
Published: February 15, 2023Manchester United will look to sign 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina, Lautaro Martinez should they miss out on the signing of Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen is attracting the interest of a few top clubs across Europe including United and Chelsea from the English Premier League.
The Nigeria international has scored 17 league goals this season and is certain to cross the 20-goal mark, barring an injury, which could alert more clubs in the summer.
Team Talk via Manchester Evening News however reports that Inter Milan Martinez, has been earmarked as an alternative to the Nigerian striker.
Martinez whohas scored 15 goals this season in all competitions (12 in the Serie A after 22 matches) is also on the radar of Chelsea and Premier League leaders, Arsenal.
United severed ties with club legend, Cristiano Ronaldo after his face off with manager, Erik ten Hag but are reportedly not in a rush to find a capable replacement for the Portuguese who now plays professional football in the Saudi Arabian league for Al Nassr.
Another option for the United hierarchy is Tottenham Hotspur leading scorer in history, Harry Kane who had been considered by the club in the past.
United in the January transfer window went for a short term solution with the acquisition of Wout Weghorst until the end of the 2022/2023 season.
