PL2: Six Nigerians feature for Eagles in goalless draw with Manchester United
Published: February 21, 2023
Six players of Nigerian descent were on parade for Crystal Palace as they were held to a goalless draw by Manchester United in a Premier League 2 fixture held at Copers Cope on Monday, February 20.
2023 Flying Eagles invitees Owen Goodman and Ademola Ola-Adebomi were joined in the starting lineup by Crystal Palace's youngest player in the Premier League David Ozoh, Tayo Adaramola and Victor Akinwale.
Goalkeeper Goodman saved a free-kick from Tom Huddlestone in the 35th minute.
After coming close in the first half when his shot was blocked, Ola-Adebomi had the best chance to break the deadlock in the early stages of the second half but his powerful shot from inside the box hit the woodwork.
In the 70th minute, Manchester United's latest Premier League debutant Kobbie Mainoo was also thwarted by the woodwork as the game remained goalless.
Ola-Adebomi was replaced by another player of Nigerian descent, David Omilabu with sixteen minutes to go.
In the provisional standings, the Eagles are third with 28 points accumulated, seven points behind leaders Manchester City.
