'Amazing return' - Arsenal legend Ray Parlour impressed with Akpom's form
Published: February 24, 2023Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has admitted that he has been impressed with the form of Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom.
The Hale End Academy product has starred since the appointment of Manchester United icon Michael Carrick as Middlesbrough manager, scoring sixteen goals in eighteen appearances across all competitions.
Akpom has been on the scoresheet in four of the last five matches in the Championship and is the leading marksman in the division with a career-best nineteen goals.
Boro have also been firing on all cylinders under Carrick and have launched a surprise automatic promotion bid, with four points separating them from second-place Sheffield United.
Parlour noted that Boro have performed well since the appointment of Carrick because the Middlesbrough players immediately took to him.
"Burnley look good and Sheffield United are strong, but if Middlesbrough keep winning games and putting the pressure on then the wheels could really come off, and they could take that second place, or even first place. What a season, I love the Championship!' Parlour told NetBet Sports Betting, via TeessideLive.
"You can’t really call it at times, but Middlesbrough have been excellent. Chuba Akpom has also scored 19 goals in 26 games, that’s an amazing return for a Championship side."
Middlesbrough have not played in the Premier League since the 2016-2017 season.
