'Right cross at the right time' - Iheanacho reacts to his consolation goal against Blackburn Rovers
Published: March 01, 2023Leicester City crashed out of the Emirates FA Cup on Tuesday night following a 2-1 defeat suffered at the hands of Championship side Blackburn Rovers at the King Power Stadium.
Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers paid the price for making six changes, two of which saw Nigeria internationals Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi drop to the bench.
Leicester City were faced with a mountain to climb after goals from Tyrhys Dolan and Sammie Szmodics saw them trailing by two goals with 51 minutes played, which rendered Iheanacho's 67th minute strike a mere consolation.
Less than ten minutes after coming off the bench, Iheanacho halved the deficit when he tapped in a cross from Harvey Barnes in the 67th minute.
The Leicester City number 14 was close to netting an equalizer in the 86th minute but his curling effort was wide of Pears' right-hand upright, and he was denied by the Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper with two minutes left.
Reacting to his goal, Iheanacho said to Leicester City's official website : "It was a good ball from Barnsey (Harvey Barnes), on the flank, taking it well and working the man, cutting it back
"It was the right cross at the right time. Hopefully there’s more to come, but we’re out of the competition now.
"It’s a tough one to take. As I said, we need to do more, to stay in the league and get up there."
Iheanacho has now scored eighteen goals in the Emirates FA Cup, with thirteen of those goals coming in the colours of Leicester City.
