Could the end be near for Wilfred Ndidi at Leicester City?
Published: March 01, 2023Wilfred Ndidi used to be one of the first names on Leicester City's team sheet before this season, but the reverse is the case these days.
He has started only two of the last eight games played by the Foxes across all competitions.
The Nigerian midfielder's place is being threatened by Boubakary Soumare , Nampalys Mendy and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
The reason behind the threat to Ndidi's place is not far-fetched. The 26-year-old has been battling injuries for a while now.
The Super Eagles star missed seventeen games due to injuries in the 2020/2021 season, the same number as the 2021-2022 campaign.
Ndidi is already feeling the cumulative effects of the injuries he has had in the past two seasons, which explains his struggles for Brendan Rodgers' side.
He has been left out of the squad 6 times this season and has been substituted in on five occasions in the Premier League.
For a player known for his good reading of the game, it will interest you to know that Soumare and Mendy are winning more duels than Ndidi in the Premier League this season.
Soumare has won 64% of his tackles this season, Mendy has won 56% while Ndidi has won a meager 35%, according to stats from Fbref.com.
While Ndidi seems to have won the battle against injury, he must work assiduously to get back to his full fitness and form so he can become one of Leicester's key players once again.
If he fails to do that, he might be declared surplus to requirements at the King Power stadium.
