Hale End product Akpom quadruple-nominated for Middlesbrough Goal of the Month
Published: March 02, 2023Arsenal's Hale End Academy product Chuba Akpom has been quadruple-nominated for Middlesbrough's Goal of the Month award for February 2023.
The red-hot striker found the back of the net five times in the EFL Championship last month, meaning four of those strikes made the shortlist.
In addition to his double against Blackpool, his goals against Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers have also been nominated.
At the Riverside Stadium on February 4, Boro thrashed Blackpool 3-0, with Akpom accounting for two of the goals.
Thirty two minutes into the contest, the Super Eagles hopeful curled a shot into the far corner from outside the box to open the scoring and just before the hour mark he doubled the advantage after he was fed by Riley McGree.
Also in the running for the Goal of the Month accolade is his opener in a 3-1 win at Sheffield United.
In the 25th minute, Akpom picked up the ball from Forss inside the box, shimmied past Anel Ahmedhodzic in brilliant fashion before firing past Foderingham into the corner.
Last but not least is Akpom's opener at home to Queens Park Rangers. The number 29 headed in a cross from Barlaser in the 64th minute.
The other three players in the running for the Goal of the Month award are Marcus Forss, Cameron Archer, who has been double-nominated, and Riley McGree.
